Since the very first abdominoplasty had been performed the method was improved and modified. There are many variations of the type and design of incisions and the surgery technique itself. Those who are interested in tummy tuck might have heard the terms complete and partial or mini-tummy tuck. These are two major modifications of this type of surgery. Additionally, there are other types of techniques, such as endoscopic and reverse abdominoplasty.

Complete tummy tuck

tummy tuckComplete abdominoplasty is usually offered to patients who have large excess of fat deposits both in the lower and middle abdominal area, very loose skin and lax muscles of the abdominal wall.

In full tummy tuck a large incision is made across the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. Another incision is made around the belly button in order to separate it from the surrounding tissues. All the skin is made free from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles are sewn together and hence tightened. The surgeon then removes excess skin, makes a new hole for the navel to put in another position. And the tummy tuck surgery is finished with suturing and stitching the incisions

Since it is the most complicated type of tummy tuck the surgeon should carefully evaluate whether you are a suitable candidate to it or not. Your doctor might offer you a mini-tummy tuck in combination with liposuction of the middle abdominal area. Do not hesitate to discuss all the options with your doctor, since full abdominoplasty causes greater swelling and discomfort due to a huge amount of work done. The recovery period is also longer compared to other types of tummy tuck.

Reverse tummy tuck

Reverse abdominoplasty may be offered to patients who have breast lift or breast reduction performed and also have loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper abdominal area. This is a new procedure and is not very popular among surgeons yet. But you may ask your doctor about if reverse abdominoplasty might be beneficial in your individual case. Since there are various types of abdominoplasty techniques your job is to find a competent, highly skilled surgeon who would offer the best option for you. As it is very individual, it is a wrong thinking that one size fits all.

I have stretch marks on my stomach, what do you recommend? Tummy tuck will be the best solution for stretch mark problem. Of course, you could try non-surgical procedures (for ex., fitness), but they don't guarantee long term results.

I have had a tummy tuck and have now developed an umbilical hernia. I am about to have the hernia removed and the tummy tuck scar redone and lowered by a new surgeon. My question is ... is the tummy tuck the initial cause of the hernia and how likely is it that I will get another hernia ?

I had my tummy tuck 3 weeks ago and am feeling great. I can't believe how hard my tummy is. Is it true that it takes at least 2 months before it all falls into place and start to get some shape???

I'm not sure that tummy tuck causes hernia..Please, consult to your doctor.

Everything depends on you previous conditions. If your tummy muscles were stong, recovery will be much faster.

It's normal to feel pain, but you should consult your doctor about the water retention.

I had a full tummy tuck done a week ago. Since I have had this done I am finding that I can't each a full meal. I also have a 'pulling' sensation'around my waist. Is this normal?

I had a reverse abdominoplasty 9 days ago and am feeling great. I am almost 54 years old and expected that the healing process would be slow and painful. I was so wrong. I highly recommend this procedure to any women who don't plan to have any more children

is it possible that after a tummy tuck and the surgeon reattaches the belly button that the belly button can be off centered or is it that that after the swelling goes down then one can tell if its off centered or not? because mine is about 1 (one) inch away from the center but its only been 11 days now since i've had surgery, please answer me , thanks ann.

Only your surgeon can tell you the reason of the scabs..

I don't think that the surgeon reattached the belly button. I guess, it's because of swelling, because swelling is the most common complication and it may go down only after 2-3 weeks. By the way, do you try to reduce swelling? For example, it's recommended to use ice packs (but do not put them directly on the skin). Also avoid saunas, jacuzzi and even hot water streams for about 3-4 weeks.
And don't forget to visit your doctor :)

I have had a full tummy tuck 2 years ago. It had taken me 2 years for the swelling to dissappear with extensive work out program. I am thinking about the reversal tummy tuck, but I'm afraid I will once again have an abnormal amount of swelling and take a very long time to disappear. My tummy tuck was the last of five surgerys which I had in 5 years. :?

I am thinking of reverse tummy tuck. I want to know of anyone that has had a bad or experience with this procedure. I am worried that there will be large spread out scars under my breasts because of going against gravity. Please I need feeback on this procedure. You can email me at my personal email
